"I read this book from cover to cover and it is excellent. I would recommend it to anyone interested in metaphysical and psychological interests. If you are just going to sit around sipping on drinks with umbrellas in them while you watch lifeguards or thongs going by on your next trip to Hawaii you probably will want to pass. But if you want to be drawn into the mysteries of paradise then you will want to read this book. Even if you are not going to Hawaii, this book is an excellent study of spirituality. I am super critical and I think it is worth a read. In fact I am planning on reading it a second time. Pila is a friend of mine and a fellow Truth student who studied under the same Fourth Way Master who lived in Hawaii. Despite this I paid for my copy of this book and it was worth every dime. It will be worth it to you too. In fact, if you are one of my students, consider it required reading. Aloha nui loa." ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Amazon.com Interview:
How did you begin writing? Did you intend to become an author, or do you have a specific reason or reasons for writing each book?
P.C.(Pila of Hawaii aka Pila Chiles): I am a Vietnam survivor of an experimental Marine combat unit who had a vision in heavy combat. I am also dyslexic and only recently learned to read properly. Writing has never been easy for me but this book and 2 others had to be written. I have had incredible "soul" response from people worldwide who have been touched by my book. Hopefully, with your exquisite Website it will reach more. (My thanks to Gunthy Ranker Corp. for highly recommending you.) Amazon.com: What authors do you like to read? What book or books have had a strong influence on you or your writing?
P.C.: Since the recent conquering of my reading disability, I have become an avid reader, starting with all of Stephen King's works, then Vonnegut and now I am working my way into the classics of Steinbeck and Hemingway. Amazon.com: Could you describe the mundane details of writing: How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you write a draft on paper or at a keyboard (typewriter or computer)? Do you have a favorite location or time of day (or night) for writing? What do you do to avoid--or seek!--distractions?
P.C.: Although writing, still for me, is at times like Van Gough wrestling with his ear, I find my most creative time is early morning, usually around 4 a.m. Initially, although my soul was burning with a desire to become a writer, I did not believe I had what it took. Because of my learning disability I was also a college dropout. Then, in my travels, a writer of travel guides gave me my slogan to live by. He said that the definition of a writer is not someone who is necessarily learned or one who has completely devoted his life to it. He said the full definition of a writer is "one who writes a little every day". I have never forgotten that and, after writing a little each day, bingo! I now am a published author with 2 more manuscripts. Also, as you may have noticed, it helps to be a little long winded!
Amazon.com: Do you meet your readers at book signings, conventions, or similar events? Do you interact with your readers electronically through e-mail or other online forums?
P.C.: Yes.
Amazon.com: When and how did you get started on the Net? Do you read any newsgroups such as rec.arts.books and rec.arts.sf.written, mailing lists, or other on-line forums? Do you use the Net for research--or is it just another time sink? Are you able to communicate with other writers or people you work with over the Net?
P.C.: I first "body-boarded" the net as a reluctant dinosaur sometime last year. Now, with water wings and a snorkel I am researching my books, building my third Website to advertise my new health beverage company (http://idt.net/~kombuch1/ ..thanks for asking!) and prospecting a health resort in Hawaii (the subject of my book and my vision from Vietnam). I believe the Internet to be the neurological network that will transform the planet. It is possibly the truth behind Biblical Prophecy and "the Rapture". Far out, huh? (No, I don't drop acid!)

Customer Reviews of Book
"The Secrets and Mysteries of Hawaii" is a wonderful journey for the mind and spirit. It gives not only the Aloha flavor, but touches the soul. If you want to visit Hawaii, this little book is a MUST! ~ M.L.M. Stillwater, OK

Reviewer: A reader from New York, NY USA This book came into my life as a most timely coincidence. Now I know why I have been drawn to Hawaii for so long. Everyone who has ever had an inkling to visit the islands of paradise should read this wonderful book beforehand. Searching for answers? This is more than just a great
vacation. C. M.

"Secrets & Mysteries of Hawaii" leaped off the shelf into my hands. Once I started to read it I found I couldn't put it down. The book is a "guide" book to the many worlds--both inner and outer--of Big Island, whereby Chiles explores his vision of Hawaii as spiritual metaphor for our contemporary times. Hawaiian culture, language, myth, gods, people and sacred places are brought to life by Chiles' vivid narrative and autobiographical perspective. It reads like an adventure story, is a veritable Hawaiian "bouillabaisse", often wild and woolly stuff --complete with material on UFO's and angels. I had the feeling I was being given 'the inside story'-- told with humor, knowledge and self revelation as Chiles shares the continuing odyssey of his love and experience of Hawaii. I found myself very moved by passages in this unusual book, written with what I do believe is true 'aloha spirit'. Aspects of Hawaiian history are underscored by Chiles' passion for and commitment to the recent renaissance of Hawaiian culture and the growing Sovereignty movement. ~ Reader in N.Y.

This is a book to savor and let the information and feeling of real aloha sink in. After living in Hawaii for seven years this is the first book I've come across that catches the the magical, mystical essence of Hawaii accurately, and in true island style - with a balance of respect and humor. Pila has his information down through study, homage to his teachers and direct experience. This is a book about much more than Hawaii for those that have eyes to see and perception to perceive beyond the words. Pila brings the hidden stories of creation - ancient Hawaiian style - out for us to experience. Reader in Kirkland, WA

I bought this book months ago when I was researching HUNA. This book did not aid me that much on my spiritual path but I enjoyed this book very much. ~ T.B., Tennessee

This book touches a very special place in you. It fills a void, not only for the vacationer and the person who dreams of paradise, but the spiritual seeker. Whether you are traveling to the islands, have been there or are searching for the mystical, this book is for you. The inferences to the paranormal and the wisdom of the ancient Hawaiians pose incredible questions for science, at this, our defining moment in all history. ~ Dr. L.E.B., New York

In his beautiful narrative, author Pila Chiles, gifted seer and healer, speaks honestly to the hearts of all those in search of Truth and Light. The magical island of Hawaii serves as the enchanting backdrop of this important spiritual work, but the message belongs to every human soul who has ever craved True Contentment. This book should be included on the top ten list of spiritually important books for the new millennium. ~ L.W., New York
I purchased this book a few weeks before I traveled to Hawaii, in 1997, and I felt as if reading it, prepared me for the energies and gifts of Hawaii. I knew when I arrived that I had arrived HOME, and I referred to the book, while I was there, for inspiration ,and confirmation. It is well written, and I recommend it highly, especially if you are planning a trip to any of the Hawaiian islands. I am returning there this summer, and am so glad I have it on my bookshelf to read once more. I know it will once again speak to my soul, just as Hawaii does. Aloha ~ C. B., Connecticut
"The Secrets and Mysteries of Hawaii by Pila of Hawaii I wish everybody would be able to read and do the chants Pila presents in his book. They have certainly changed my life, and They will do the same for anyone who use them. I only wish I was able to get hold a recording of them, since I believe they will be even more powerful with the right music or tones. ~ Reader in Stockholm, Sweden
