Preface to Science of Being

A clear, simple explanation of the laws and their application of the reality back of man's outer appearance which is the SCIENCE OF BEING. Science is that which can be demonstrated, and these laws teach how to demonstrate health, happiness and life which is man's true heritage.
It is written in analogy form, so clear and plain that "he who runs may read"; summed up in terse epigrams, which review the points of the lessons.
The epigrams could also serve for daily meditations as well as the chapter designated "Daily Meditation and Self Treatment."
This book is worthy of careful study by all who wish to express life to its fullest measure, as well as those who seek spiritual illumination. ~ L. W. H.

Introduction

To Understand These Lessons one must see the difference between ordinary facts and what is termed the Absolute Truth.
First: We see a fact to be that which can be a fact today, and not necessarily be a fact tomorrow. A fact can change or even cease to be.
Now what we term an Absolute Truth is that which never changes. If it is an Absolute Truth today, it remains an Absolute Truth --- the same yesterday, today and forever. Hence, an Absolute Truth is that which never changes; whereas, that which changes, evolves and becomes, is a fact, and could be said to be a true fact, but not an Absolute Truth.
To know the Absolute Truth is to be able to change facts. To change facts is called demonstration.
The Absolute Truth is that which eternally is. There can be no such thing as that which is not, hence the Truth is all there really is.
There is a realm of facts, which evolves, changes, becomes and ceases to be --- this is the relative realm of "Cause and effect," not to be confused with the realm of reality.
The realm of reality and the realm of "cause and effect" are two separate and distinct planes of being.

Our Statement of Being

There is only One life, and that life is God; because that life is God, it is perfect. Since there is only One life, then that life is man's life --- the only life there is for man to have or to be. Therefore, nothing apart from that One life is present or has any power.
Hence God the One life is all the power, all the presence, all the Mind ---intelligence there is.
The one truth about which all are agreed is the truth of mathematics. No educated person would attempt to argue the question. Nor does one approach the principle asking that the principle itself be verified. Because, in order to prove mathematics one must first accept the principle itself.
So we have not tried to offer argument but have presented the analogy of mathematics and drawn its parallel correspondences to the life Principle.
We assume that every one believes he is alive and that that Life within him is a divine principle, which most of us call "God."
When a thing is obvious it is needless to argue about it. No one can convince you that God is, or that life is God. That conviction must arise from within. It is spiritually discerned. No mental argument can accomplish it. We do not attempt it.
Is our statement of Truth based upon scripture?
Yes, and we offer to you the following quotations:
"In the beginning God." Genesis 1:1. "All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made." "In him was life and that life was the light of men. That was the true light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world." John 1:3, 4, 9.
"As the Father hath life in himself so hath he given the son to have life in himself." John 5:26.
"While we look not at the things that are seen, but the things that are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal: but the things which are not seen are eternal." II Cor. 4:18.
Do we believe in Jesus Christ?
We do. We believe and acknowledge Jesus Christ is come in the flesh --- the personification of man's Divinity, manifested and demonstrated --- the great I AM THAT I AM. The perfected fruit of the race epitomized and objectified in Jesus the Christ; so that Jesus became literally the Way, the Truth and the Life. Hence the Savior (preserver of the race).
"God's idea of a man and man's idea of a God."
Time and space forbid our continuing any further preliminary introduction. We merely ask you to assume the position offered before trying to prove it. Having assumed the position before applying its application, like mathematics, it will prove itself.
The author has in her possession many testimonials of demonstrations which she has kept for the assurance and encouragement of those to whom this Truth is new.
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. This principle is CONDEMNATION before investigation." - Herbert Spencer
"Nothing binds man but sin, and sin is to think outside the principles of Mind. Jesus called this principle 'Father.'"
The principles of Mind are as accurate and scientific as the principles of mathematics.
One of the very first laws of mind is: What the mind refuses to accept, the body cannot continue to express. The body is not self-acting, but acted upon by mind.
"Everything is mind, and what a man thinks he becomes." - Buddha.
"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." - Jesus

AXIOMATIC REASONING
An axiom is a self-evidence truth. Illustration:

God is.
God is Good.
God is all the power,
All the presence,
All the Mind-intelligence
There is.

Therefore, if God is Good,
And Life is Good;
Then God is Life,
And Life is God.

This axiomatic reasoning can be continued by using any word that can be said to be good for all people at all times and in all places. For instance: Health can be said to be good not only for oneself, but for all people at all times and in all places. Hence it is an impersonal, universal good which can be identified with God as shown above.

"Let Down Your Buckets"

Are you athirst, tired and despondent? If so, "let down your buckets."
No doubt you have heard the story of how a little group of people were out in a ship, and sighting a large steamer a long way off, sent out the call for help, saying, "We are dying of thirst," and clear and strong came back the reply, "Let down your buckets! You are in the mouth of the great Amazon."
But still dying of thirst, because they were not conscious of it! So today the cry is going out, for healing, supply and life. "Letdown your buckets." You are in the very heart and ocean of all that is! The supply is all around you and fills you!
Think of the buckets as your desires, the rope with which you draw the supply as faith. Of course, if your ropes (faith) are weak in places with doubt, then the chances are against your buckets (desires) being drawn into manifestation.
The larger the buckets (desires) the stronger must be your ropes (faith). It matters not to the great ocean of infinite supply whether you draw a bucket or a barrel full, you cannot exhaust the infinite Source.
Listen, tap the Spring!
"Come all ye that are athirst, and drink."
